The original 1794 church is the first place of Catholic worship in the nation’s capital. The design consists of the careful renovation of the original church and the delicate insertion of new construction into the parish’s campus in Georgetown. Two new additions combine with existing structures to form two dynamic outdoor rooms in the middle of the block, capable of many uses. Accommodating some program in a below-grade addition preserves the setting of the historic church. The renovation returns the church to a sacred place of worship for 90 people.
