Temple Rodef Shalom serves northern Virginia, but the existing building did not provide full access to all who worship there. However, Kerns Group’s design for the worship space introduces a sinuous curve to negotiate a tight turn and insert a new ramp that provides graceful access to the Bema. Cherry and stainless steel handrails are detailed to feel comfortable to the human touch and to harmonize unobtrusively with the sacred space. New finishes, seating and lighting refresh the octagonal 1960’s sanctuary.
